fall creative girl invitation

fall 2014 cg register

Dear Creative GIRL,

Fall is nearly here. I can tell by the color the is sun casting upon the trees…. that mellow golden orangey yellow, different than the bright yellowy yellow of summer… the fluffy whiteness of the clouds … and that exquisite blue …. ooooooooooh!!!!! Fall is my FAVE 🙂

I’ve been daydreaming about our next CG playshop and have a few fall-fabulous fun ideas in the works.

If you played last Fall, you’ll remember we had tents outdoors and got to spend time together beneath the blue sky and white fluffy clouds. Yes, weather permitting, we will do this again!

Our FALL playshop will honor the beautiful expressive art form of POETRY. We will celebrate a few great poets, and apply our hearts and minds to the creative task of writing our own. We will make beaded dreamcatchers and a teeny special journal especially for thoughts and ideas you want to keep close to your heart. (We’ll make a few other creations too, but I like to have a few surprises.) ❤

special invitations for WOMEN

Dear Creatiful!

There are LOTS of things bubbling in my heart as I’m planning the next few playshops for our creative girls AND for creative WOMEN too!

For now, I have two invitations I’d like to extend, especially for women.

A few times a year I am honored to offer playshops at A Place for Women to Gather. The next program is called “Lighting Her Moon” and is especially for mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other women who have a young girl in their lives. I created this program because it was something I wanted to experience myself, for my own daughters. This playshop will offer an opportunity for learning and sharing that I feel is very important for the health of our daughters, and for honoring our own female sacredness.

Here is the description from the brochure:

Lighting HER Moon
This program shares ideas and traditions celebrating our daughters first menstruation and monthly moon time. It intends to spark ideas about how we can best honor our own girls’ transition into this special time in a girl’s life in our modern lives. We will explore different rituals and practices around the world honoring girls’ first menarche and her ongoing lunar cycles. The last portion of our time together we will create a hand-molded candle, reflecting the Navajo practice of molding, molding into the candle your intentions for strength, wisdom and courage for a young girl in your life.
Dates/Times: Wednesday, September 3, 6:30–9 p.m. OR Saturday, September 6, 1–3:30 p.m.
Suggested donation: $35 (includes materials)

Please email me directly becky AT creativegirl DOT net to register.

Sacred Kindness Retreat
Many women have asked me to create creative GIRL playshops specifically for women … and the secret is out … I’m excited to share with you that I DO! Registration just opened for the fall Sacred Kindness Retreat. This special 4 day, 3 night mountain pilgrimage is offered twice a year for 13 women. The next one will be October 9th to the 12th. To see full information, please visit http://www.selfkindnessretreat.com . At this time there are 9 openings.

Oooh, and I’m excited to tell you that I’ll be announcing the Fall Creative GIRL date later this week.

(AND I have some other exciting things to share next month.)

It is such a joy and blessing to be able to create these beautiful programs that honor our daughters AND the GIRL inside of us. Thank you for seeing the beauty and importance of this –what I know in my heart to be– sacred work.

creatifully yours,

the creative girls of summer

creative girl collage summer 2014 aug

Dear Creatifuls,

Let us NOT forget the very serious (and creative) nature of play. This past July marked the FIFTH creative GIRL playshop where we had some serious creative fun, it was inspiring. 12 girls, mounds of creative supplies, some gifted to my program by people who believe in what we are doing. I am deeply grateful to my friends Marie, Theresa, Adrienne, Paula, Eliza, Susi and Keara for supporting creative GIRL with supply donations and your time helping prepare and clean up the creative girl traildust. Your love, friendship and generous support means so much to me, thank you thank you thank YOU! And to our amazing intern who helped set up but wasn’t able to play this time. Thank you creatiful Anna! (You’ll get to play next time I promise 🙂 )

And of course, the creative GIRLs yourselves! I am constantly surprised and inspired by your curiosity, your playfulness and how easily you get into the flow of creativity. (Thank you to your families for bringing you too!)

It is my absoulute joy and privilege to supports girls in creative exploration of the expressive arts. We make lots of things, learn about different art and craft supplies, but most importantly we celebrate the gift of ourselves. Creative GIRL is a time and space for girls (tween ages 10 to 14) to create, share and talk about being true to ourselves, discovering things we can do when we don’t know quite what to do, and talking about the challenges of being. We also talk about kindness … how to be kind to ourselves AND how to be kind to others in our community and to Mama Earth.

Every time the creative Girls get together something heals inside me. I have a dear new friend in Virginia named Wendy Cook. She is a mother and artist and the founder of Mighty Girl Art. (Wendy passionately creates experiences honoring girls’ creative hearts too. How blessed am I to have found her!!!!!)  A few months ago we talked about the surprising healing that happens to us, as we listen to the girls open to one another, as we watch them experience new creative expressions of themselves. We–as facilitators–benefit deeply and feel a healing as we witness in them the very thing that was missing from our own tweenage years.

That’s one of the many reasons I feel so privileged to be bringing forth creative GIRL–defining it for girls and women in my community, and perhaps in due time, for people in other parts of the world through online offerings.

Anyway, I wanted to write and share a few pictures from July’s playshop and remind those of you with girls who are still out of school and are in Raleigh, Cary, Durham or Chapel Hill area, that we have openings in the August playshop August 5th to the 7th (tues to thurs) from 10 am to 4 pm daily in Northeast Raleigh. If she’d like to join us fill out form here to reserve her spot!

creatiful blessings and love,
